About the Training Programme

Agriculture in India is increasingly challenged by climate change, including erratic rainfall, rising temperatures, floods, droughts, and emerging pest and disease problems. Quality seed of climate-resilient and high-yielding varieties serves as the foundation of sustainable agriculture. Sponsored by the Uttar Pradesh Council of Agricultural Research (UPCAR), this ten-day short course training programme organized by ICAR-NISST is designed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of scientists, extension personnel, seed professionals, and stakeholders in developing and promoting climate-resilient seed systems.

Objectives

  • Enhance understanding of climate-resilient seed systems and their role in sustainable agriculture.
  • Strengthen knowledge on climate-resilient crop varieties and quality seed production technologies.
  • Provide practical exposure to seed production, processing, testing, storage, and certification.
  • Build capacity on community-based seed systems, seed villages, and seed enterprises.
  • Familiarize participants with recent advances in seed quality assurance, molecular tools, and digital technologies.

  • Climate-resilient farming systems and the role of quality seed
  • Climate-resilient crop varieties and innovative seed production technologies
  • Hybrid seed production in field crops and vegetable seed production under protected cultivation
  • Seed quality enhancement through pelleting, encrustation, seed coating, bio-priming, and seed invigoration
  • Advances in seed testing, vigour evaluation, and hands-on laboratory techniques
  • Seed health management, phytosanitary measures, and detection of storage pests
  • Biotechnology, genome editing, and molecular tools for climate-resilient seed systems
  • Seed testing for GMOs and regulatory mechanisms, seed traceability, and digital quality monitoring
  • OECD Seed Schemes, seed marketing, branding, supply chain management, community seed banks, and Seed Village Programme
